2008 Comtes de Champagne Rosé | Register your interest

Comtes de Champagne is the jewel in Taittinger’s crown, released only in the best years. The delectable Rosé is even more sought after, with just one bottle made for every ten of the flagship Blanc de Blanc. We are delighted to have an allocation of the famed 2008 vintage to offer, and invite clients to register their interest for the release by emailing wine@goedhuis.com.

The Comtes de Champagne Rosé is made of 30% Chardonnay Grands Crus from the most prestigious Côte des Blancs terroirs combined with 70% Pinot Noir sourced from the Montagne de Reims Grands Crus. Of the Pinot 12% is further enhanced with red wine from Bouzy, whose relatively long pre-fermentation maceration ensures a superb tannic structure with fruit-forward aromas of red and black berries. The wine is aged for more than a decade in Taittinger’s incredible Saint-Nicaise chalk cellars dating from Gallo-Roman times.

It is not only highly collectable but is one of the most enjoyable prestige cuvée Champagnes to drink at any age: gorgeous in its youth, but with the potential to mature beautifully over decades.

Offering up inviting aromas of red berries, plums, sweet spices, orange rind and freshly baked bread, it’s medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse. As I wrote in 2019, Taittinger is using more Pinot Noir and opting for longer sur lattes maturation for this bottling, and the result is that Comtes Rosé is becoming a more gastronomic Champagne. 96 points. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

With notes of spices, black cherry, morello cherry and black fruit, the bouquet is impressively complex and delicious. On the palate, the vinous texture, fine bubbles, depth and complexity allow for a long, chalky, chiselled finish. This is a gastronomic Champagne rosé with great ageing potential. 97 points. Yohan Castaing, Decanter

Praised by the critics for its gorgeous complex aromas, precise palate, textured saline minerality and gastronomic qualities, this superb Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2008 is not to be missed, for both its fabulous character and its impressive investment record.
