New Release | Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia

The poster child of Rioja, López de Heredia has been crafting pure and elegant styles for nearly 150 years. We are therefore delighted to offer the newly released and simply superb 2013 Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia at £162.00 per 6 bottles IB. The most traditional among traditionalists, very little has changed since the winery was founded in 1877, and with a winning formula of masterful winemaking and exceptional terroir, there is little need for the Bodegas to revise its ways. Already with 12 years of age and at a snip under £36/btl all in, few regions can compare with Rioja for its accessibility and the 2012 Reserva from Tondonia serves as a prime example of this.

    The 2014 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a classic expression of Tondonia’s elegant, age-worthy style. Wonderfully balanced and vibrant, it opens with leafy, bramble-led aromatics before unfurling into layers of blackcurrant and cherry, laced with orange zest and a touch of mocha. Savoury touches of cured meat and a gentle ferrous nature are interlaced throughout the fruit, while pipe tobacco, fresh leather, clove and wild herbs add complexity. A menthol note keeps it wonderfully fresh, underpinned with some subtle balsamic tones. The finish is long, saline and lifted, promising graceful evolution for many years to come.

  • IN BOND prices exclude UK Duty and VAT. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries. Duty and VAT must be paid before delivery can take place.

  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • En Primeur wines can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.

  • DP: Duty Paid. Wines for immediate UK delivery must be purchased Duty Paid. VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. Wines which have been removed from Bond cannot subsequently be returned to Bond. They must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • EP: En Primeur. These wines are lying in the Domaines’ cellars until shipping. They can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.
