Trained at Château Pétrus and rooted in Rioja, he helped redefine modern Spanish fine wine with precision and vision. In Bierzo, he and his nephew Ricardo revitalised the steep hills of Corullón, focusing on old-vine Mencía grown on mineral-rich slate, schist, and clay soils.
