  • Goedhuis, December 2011

For his last vintage at the domaine, Sylvain has finished with great style with his flagship wine. Dense, wild berry fruits, a full and powerful wine with masses of dense fruits. Long and plenty of potential.

  • Neal Martin, January 2012, Score: 96-98

For me, the Malconsorts has the finest delineation on the nose, almost pixelated red fruit with hints of white peach and crushed stone. The palate is very well defined with tensile tannins, great tension with clarity with amazing precision on the finish. Stunning...but what else did you expect?

  • Burghound, Janaury 2013, Score: 94

(from a .74 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines). A restrained application of wood is unobtrusive and does not impede the expressiveness of the gorgeously spiced black cherry and cassis infused nose. The rich, powerful and robust large-scaled flavors possess excellent mid-palate density and plenty of extract that imparts a suave mouth feel yet the overall impression is a wine of focus, exquisite balance and persistence. This marvelous effort will require plenty of cellar time and I wouldn’t consider opening a bottle until at least 2020. That said, in the same vein as the 2011 version, the tannins are firm yet relatively fine grained and as such, this is really quite refined in the context of the appellation. 94/2022+

He is lucky enough to have more than 0.5 ha but had to buy out his three sisters: ‘Inheritance isn't easy – especially in France.' Savoury and rich at the same time. Very majestic and easy tolike, not reserved admittedly – quite a sweet style – the antithesis of de Vogue for example. Lovely stuff – very easy to like. Perhaps not for purists. Drink 2017-2030

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
