  • Goedhuis, July 2017

With significant holdings stretching from Gevrey to Chambolle, Domaine Drouhin Laroze’s wines are ripe, rich, and often earthy and textured. It is no secret what terrific value their grands crus are. This is a traditional style of Clos de Vougeot, full of masculine power and structure. Intense and concentrated it combines earthy bramble fruit with liquorice and smoke, and is an excellent example from the Côte de Nuits’s most substantial grand cru.

  • Burghound, Janaury 2013, Score: 91-94

(this and the Latricières are from the oldest vines of the Domaine; from a superbly situated 1 haparcel high on the hill). Generous wood fights a bit with the otherwise very fresh red berry fruit aromas that evidence an intense earthiness that continues on the equally intense, structured and muscular flavors that just ooze a sense of power on the beautifully long and palate coating finish. That doesn’t have the sheer depth of the best of these grand crus but this is really very, very good all the same. (91-94)/2023+

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
