Producer

The Mascot

The Mascot tells the story of the evolution of the Harlan family’s wine-growing estates as it is made from the younger Cabernet Sauvignon vines of Harlan Estate, BOND and Promontory. It is an under the radar look into the three estates at a fraction of the price, and a wine of profound beauty and stature in its own right. The winemaking and elevage is done at each individual winery as if that wine were going into the respective Grand Vin (Harlan Estate, Bond or Promontory). Will Harlan then oversees the choosing of the blend from a selection of finished barrels. As such, this wine is not site specific, but more a representation of the family’s philosophy and their interpretation of Napa and its unique vintages. The Mascot is always made in tiny quantities, and in 2017 only 4,200 cases were produced, making this release extremely limited and highly desirable to collectors.

Region

Napa Valley

This small town north of San Francisco has grown up to be one of California’s most famous wine regions. It is home to opulent Cabernets and sweetly-spiced Zinfandels, grown across many sub-regions including Stags Leap, Rutherford, Oakville and others. Cooling ocean fogs roll in from the Pacific at night and burn off in the summer sunshine, keeping the region cooler than you would expect for its latitude, and help produce some of the best Californian wines. Napa wines have the concentration and structure to age magnificently.
