  • Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 90-92

The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Clos d'Eugénie comes from the 0.57-hectare clos adjacent to the winery, sees 40% new wood (two new barrels out of a total five) and it includes 20% whole cluster. This is distinct from the regular Vosne-Romanée, that is for sure, with superior delineation and mineralité emanating from the glass with just two or three minutes aeration, but bestowed a similar fruit profile. The palate is very well structured with superb tension and poise. Again, it is very pure and focused, silky smooth in texture with heightened nervosité on the finish compared to the regular village cru. This is very fine.

(a monopole measuring .57 ha). Here the exuberantly spicy nose is clean and very fresh with its aromas of red currant, floral nuances, exotic tea and earth hints. There is more volume and a bit more richness as well to the medium weight flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel and plenty of vibrancy on the fine, long and persistent finish. This is an excellent Vosne villages and worth considering. Drink 2019+

Region

Côte de Nuits Villages

This communal appellation covers the vineyards of Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux, Comblanchien, and Corgoloin. Spread along the length of the Cotes de Nuits the wines of the different communes are, unsurprisingly, varied, reflecting a range of different exposures and nuances of soild type. The vast majority of production is red, with just a smattering of Chardonnay grown. The reds can offer very good value from the better producers.
