  • Goedhuis, December 2014

A wine of huge class and poise; the higher slopes of Les Cras produce lower yields but fruit of real concentration and intensity. This is a hugely successful 2013, with power, purity and precision. Long lasting potential.

  • Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 90-92

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Cras has a timid bouquet at first, but it slowly gathers confidence in the glass to reveal quite deep black rather than red fruit, intermingling with mulberry and a touch of mulch. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, quite tensile tannins. It is a little pinched at the moment, but it is certainly focused and presents good length in the mouth, although I just prefer the complexity demonstrated by some of the other crus such as les Fuées or les Veroilles at the moment. Drink: 2016 - 2032

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 92-94

(from a .85 ha parcel). This is also ultra-elegant and pure with an airy, cool and layered nose that features lovely notes of spice, red cherry, plum and violet scents. There is a huge reserve of dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors that possess excellent punch on the velvety, detailed and saline-inflected finish. This beauty is a classic Les Cras of power and grace.Drink 2023+

After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
