  • Goedhuis, December 2015

Bright shining red colour, in Ghislaine’s words this lovely wine is almost “crocquant” with its crunchy redcurrant fruit flavours and great line of purity. Beautifully poised with a hugely elegant, refined finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 88-90

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny, which includes the domaine's 0.07 hectares pocket in Sentiers and includes around 20% new oak, has a crisp, airy, fresh strawberry and Morello-scented bouquet. The palate is well balanced with good weight for a village cru, with the fruit a little dark here with black plum and a touch of cassis, as well as a little roundeur towards the finish -- completing a very commendable Chambolle village. • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 88-91

A more elegant though not necessarily more complex nose is composed by notes of red currant and the same floral elements. The middle weight flavors though are notably more refined with a lovely intensity and minerality that continues onto the well-delineated, vibrant and once again mildly austere finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises. Drink 2021+

  • Sarah Marsh, December 2015, Score: 16.35

A blend of 10 parcels. Less clarity of fruit on the nose…it was a bit reduced. On the palate this is tight and energetic and quite straight. There is matter here; really quite contained. It has plenty of freshness. Crunchy red cherry fruit. Crunchy tannins…lively on the finish. More piquant and zesty and a touch saline at the end. Drink from 2019

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
