  • Goedhuis, December 2019

Les Fournaux is the first premier cru as you enter the village of Savigny from Beaune and tends to be the most forward of the domaine’s premiers crus. It always expresses a youthful charm during the en primeur tastings. Very easy to taste with fresh bright strawberry fruit, subtle sandy tannins and a light touch of freshness on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 87-89

The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Fournaux 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet of fine definition and focus, delivering precise blackberry and bilberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannin and hints of green olive infusing the black fruit, and a linear, strict finish. Drink 2022-2030

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 87-90

Medium deep purple, the nose is a little bit sombre at the moment but there is a huge density of very dark fruit, almost black, slightly firm tannins after which the fruit returns behind. Punchy and finishes a little dry.

It is now under the careful management of Chisa, the late Patrick Bize’s wife, and Marielle Grivot, Patrick’s sister. They like to continue his practice of whole bunch fermentation and gentle handling of the fruit during the vinification process. The result is always very stylish wines, which possess the sweetness of fruit and subtle core of tannins, which are such a character of the wines of Savigny.Read less

Region

Savigny-lès-Beaune

The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
