  • Goedhuis, July 2022

Radiant lilac and brilliant purple hues, with scent of violets, lavender and blueberry. A broad and full style, the tannins are subtle and restrained. It generously coats the mouth: there is a lovely hedonistic confidence to this wine. Almost irresistible today, but a touch of restraint will be rewarded further down the line as it ages and develops further. Huge potential.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2022, Score: 95

Just one barrel made. The colour displays a pretty, pinker edge to the deep purple. While the 2020 Latricières shows plenty of fruit density, the fruit profile is a lighter fresher red fruit and much the better for it. Good acidity behind, this is clear-cut attractive and persistent. 13.5%. Drink from 2032-2045. 4 stars

Laurent Ponsot

Laurent Ponsot is one of Burgundy’s most internationally renowned winemakers. In 2017 he formally left his family domaine in Morey St Denis, and struck out on his own with a new winemaking facility in Gilly-lès- Cîteaux from where he now runs his solo project, started in 2015, full-time. He had been instrumental in Domaine Ponsot’s rise to fame, and had built a reputation as a maverick winemaker with his unique style that combined late harvesting, destemming, and complete aversion to new oak in the cellar. His wines are concentrated and long lived, and have won him admirers the world over. He is a passionate campaigner and prominent activist in the fight against fake wine on the secondary market. Having left his family domaine in the hands of his sisters, Laurent is joined by his son, Clément, at his new project, and together they are continuing to make their hugely exciting wines. Much of the fruit comes from his share of the family vineyards that remained with him after his departure, whilst the new project has given him the opportunity to explore new appellations.

Latricières Chambertin

Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
