  • Neal Martin, April 2023, Score: 90-92

The 2022 La Chenade was picked between 1 and 9 September and raised in 30% new oak. This has a perfumed and floral bouquet, with iris and peony infusing the black and red fruit and a light marine influence in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, good depth, white pepper and clove filtering through the earthy fruit on the finish. So much character and personality in this Lalande-de-Pomerol.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2023, Score: 90-92

The 2022 La Chenade is a bold, juicy Lalande de Pomerol. Succulent dark cherry, plum, lavender, licorice and menthol are nicely pushed forward. Soft and open-knit, with terrific fruit purity, the 2022 is exceptionally beautiful and delicious, even in the early going. Drink 2025-2037.

  • Goedhuis, April 2023, Score: 91-93

The Durantous described the 2022 vintage as “Waves of Purple Delights”, and nowhere is that more apparent than in their Lalande de Pomerol property La Chenade. Perfumed purple berries waft from the glass wrapped in cedar and mineral slate. Those flavours continue on the palate, where they are sweetly ripe with black cherry and damson juice, dovetailed by elegant acidity and well-integrated tannins. The overall impression is lovely.

  • James Suckling, April 2023, Score: 92-93

A focused and polished red with berry, chocolate and walnut character. Medium body. Focused center palate and a fresh finish. Coffee-bean and ripe-seed character. Vivid.

  • Jancis Robinson, April 2023, Score: 16+

Zesty and fresh, the Cabernet Franc offering an extra dimension this year. Plenty of fruit on the palate but length as well. Tannins ripe and well handled. Should drink well early but could surprise with a bit of time in bottle. Should be GV. (James Lawther MW) 14.4% Drink 2026 – 2036

  • Jeb Dunnuck, April 2023, Score: 91-93

The 2022 Château La Chenade is a step up over the Saintayme at this point and should be terrific. Black cherries, mulberries, chocolate, and spicy, floral notes all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, with beautiful tannins and outstanding length.

  • Matthew Jukes, April 2023, Score: 17.5

There is strictness and control in La Chenade, which is quite beautiful. Quiet, composed and perfectly judged, this is a textbook Durantou creation underpinned by discreet minerality, delicious florals and a sleek mid-palate. Bursting with wild tones and class, it never gets ahead of itself, falls out of line or becomes too excitable. It maintains its elegance all the way to the crisply tannic finish. There is no need to rush into this wine, as it has mouth-watering tension that will keep it bright for at least a decade.

Region

Lalande de Pomerol

Lalande de Pomerol is situated to the north-west of the Dordogne River north of Pomerol. Similar to the great Pomerol appellation the wines are Merlot dominated but sold at a fraction of the price. Some great value wines can be found to the south of the Lalande de Pomerol region as only the Barbanne River separates the two appellations.
