  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

This is a beautifully complex and intense Grand Cru, with aromatics that gravitate towards tropical fruit via golden kiwis and ripe nectarines. Silky and creamy, the palate possesses pitch-perfect accents of oak spice with a grip and tension that will ensure this will only get better with age.

  • Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 91-93

The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an attractive nose: butterscotch, vanilla pod, passion fruit and light pineapple scents. This is determined to make an impression. The palate is balanced with a touch of oyster shell on the entry, modest depth and plenty of extract, though it does not quite possess the class of Jadot's other Grand Crus.

  • Wine Advocate, January 2025, Score: 93-96

The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is another terrific rendition of this bottling, which might well be the most underrated of the house's grand cru whites. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, confit lemon, petrol, vanilla pod and toasty reduction, it's full-bodied, satiny and rich, with a layered, dense mid-palate and a long, mineral finish.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 94-96

Mid lemon yellow. Strict, fine and expressing the stony character of the vineyard more than the exuberance of the vintage. This is actually perfectly balanced, with just the right ripeness on the palate too. A fine minerality. Poise, class and length, very good.

  • Julia Harding, November 2024, Score: 18

Rich, creamy first impression, with ripe but fresh citrus fruit. Lovely mealy texture, the lees adding depth and richness. Powerful yet not overly rich. Deep, long, mouth-watering and beautifully balanced.

Producer

Maison Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859 by Louis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot has always been situated in the centre of Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy vineyards. Managed by three generations of the Jadot family and then by the Gagey family assisted by Jacques Lardière in the cellar, Jadot is now directed by Pierre Henry Gagey, who has introduced a new wine making team, Frédéric Barnier and Guillaume Large. Since careful ageing in wooden barrels is so very important for the balance, aromas and the ageing potential of a great wine, in 1996, Louis Jadot entered into partnership with a firm of coopers, forming Cadus Cooperage, established in Ladoix Serrigny. This allows them to control their wood sourcing and the barrel production. Maison Louis Jadot now controls 105 hectares in Burgundy with more than 70 hectares in the Côte d'Or, exclusively in Premier and Grand Cru. They produce both negociant wines under the Maison Louis Jadot label and a number of Domaines: Gagey, Duc de Magenta, Louis Jadot and Héritiers de Louis Jadot.

Region

Corton Charlemagne

As legend goes, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, ordered Chardonnay planted in the vineyard of Corton during his reign in the 8th century so as he would not stain his light-coloured beard during moments of great thirst. This may be mere romantic fallacy, but what cannot be denied is the exceptional quality of this Grand Cru appellation in Aloxe Corton in the Cote de Beaune.
