  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, April 2025, Score: 93-95

Golden glowing yellow in the glass. Really sweet and unctuous, but incredibly refined and elegant too with a smoky edge. Quince, lemon, fresh sliced white peach, cumin, a hint of saffron and sultanas. This is glorious, long and sleek. 100% Semillon. 130g/l residual sugar.

  • Neal Martin, April 2025, Score: 93-95

The 2024 Suduiraut enjoyed an early development of botrytis in mid-September, so there is no passerillage. The second and third tries in mid-October formed the heart of the wine. It is very pure on the nose, less intense than the previous two vintages, offering wild honey, peach skin and light nectarine scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity. It is not as dense or unctuous as recent vintages, but there is wonderful tension with a pure and quite sensual finish. Excellent. 130g/l residual sugar.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2025, Score: 94-96

The 2024 Suduiraut offers up a beguiling mix of passion fruit, mango, pineapple and tangerine oil. Even with 130 grams of residual sugar, the 2024 is not an especially opulent Sauternes. I especially admire its freshness. What a beautiful and expressive wine.

  • James Suckling, May 2025, Score: 95-96

The complete opposite of the 2022 vintage. Fresher and less unctuous, with more delicate fruit, but there is still plenty of botrytis. Spices, sweet pineapple, lemons, marmalade, wax, fresh mangoes and bitter herbs. Medium lusciousness, with a round, creamy finish. 130 grams of sugar.

  • Jancis Robinson, April 2025, Score: 17

Burnished gold. Fresh and expressive on the nose with pineapple, mandarin and honeyed notes. Sweet palate but not heavy or overblown, tempered by the bitter-botrytised freshness and finish. Very pure and absolutely delicious. (JL)

Region

Sauternes

It is not an exaggeration to say that these are the greatest sweet wines in the world. They are the result of a serendipitous marriage of grape variety, location, annual weather conditions and human care and determination. The vineyards are located on the banks of the cool spring-fed Ciron river which, in autumn, flows into the warmer tidal Garonne and creates rolling evening mists which clothe the vines until the afternoon sun burns them off the following day. This cycle creates perfect conditions for the development of botrytis cinerea or noble rot, and the resulting grape juice is a super concentrated sweet, ambrosial nectar which makes the most heavenly and complex wines with extraordinary ability to age. In 1855 the wines were classified into first and second growths, with Ch d'Yquem rightly receivingits own super status of premier grand cru. Other stunning wines include Chx Sudiraut, Rieussec, Coutet and Climens. While seductively fragrant and sweet when young, if you can bear to wait, you will be amply rewarded with lusciously rich, exotically complex wine.
