Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 92-94
The 2013 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, which was two-third whole-cluster fruit, has a well-defined bouquet with very fine mineralité. These aromatics just speak of "class." The palate is medium-bodied with fresh and supple tannins, finely-tuned acidity and commendable precision on the finish. This is a refined and sophisticated Clos du Roi in the making and one of de Montille's standouts of 2013. Drink 2019-2032

Burghound, April 2015, Score: 92-94
This is notably more sauvage in character with abundant spice and floral elements add a touch of elegance to the otherwise frank and rustic aromas of mostly dark berry fruit. There is both excellent volume and richness to the muscular and powerful big-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth and length. This is a classic example of Clos du Roi and should age accordingly. Drink 2024+

Stephen Tanzer, November 2015, Score: 92
(vinified with two-thirds whole clusters): Healthy bright medium red. Musky raspberry and crushed stone on the nose. At once silky and perfumed in the middle palate, conveying a savory quality to the flavors of red fruits, minerals and dried flowers. Has plenty of fat to support its broad, fine-grained tannins. A consistent, pliant wine from start to very long finish, showing lovely fruit retention and energy. Drink 2022-2033

Jancis Robinson, November 2014, Score: 17
Two-thirds whole bunch, 45% new oak. ‘At the turn of the 19th century, Corton was rated up with the best grand crus of the Côte de Nuits.’ Bright and rich nose with more vivacity than most Cortons. Chewy and polished. Drink 2020-2030
Region
Corton
The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
