Robert Parker, June 2017, Score: 94
The 2013 Barolo Bussia Colonnello is the most ethereal and delicate of the Bussia series of wines. Fruit is sourced from a portion of the Bussia vineyard that is located closer to the village of Barolo (one kilometer away) than it is the village of Monforte d'Alba (five kilometers away). The sandy soils found here make for softer and tamer tannins especially when compared to the other parts of Bussia. The bouquet opens to aromas of blue flowers, spice, wild berry, licorice and white truffle. This is a softly nuanced and finessed Barolo made with fruit from 45-year-old vines.

Jancis Robinson, April 2017, Score: 17+
Monforte d’Alba. Five weeks of skin contact and aged for 29 months in 25-hl Slavonian oak barrels. Lustrous mid ruby with narrow orange rim. Enticing, powerful yet fresh and deep cherry nose. Powerful sandy tannins with a layer of ripe cherry fruit. Very long, fresh, full and tannic. Beautiful fruit with huge tannins.
Region
Barolo
With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
