  • Goedhuis, November 2018

Adjoining Chambertin Grand Cru, the richer top soil of Latricières means that the vines cope extremely well in slightly drier years, such as 2017. This has a natural richness, with a full deep palate reflecting the density that one seeks from a grand cru.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 92-94

The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru sees the same whole bunches and new oak treatment as the Chapelle-Chambertin. But this has more complexity on the nose, red and black fruit side-by-side, more mineral-driven with subtle iris and peony scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and vibrant in the mouth with a crisp and tensile finish. This is looking very promising. 2023 - 2040

  • Burghound, January 2018, Score: 91-93

A notably cooler nose is comprised by red berry fruit, sauvage nuances and violet notes with subtle undertones of underbrush and Gevrey-style earth. The delicious, complex and intensely mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors possess slightly better mid-palate density while exhibiting just a bit more overall depth and persistence. In contrast to the Chapelle though, this will need at least half a dozen years of cellar time and reward up to 20. Drink 91-93

  • Decanter, December 2018, Score: 97

Latricières is one of the outstanding sites of the 2017 vintage, and this is my pick of the Drouhins' grands crus this year, partly because of the freshness of its cooler terroir. It's intensely coloured and focussed, with orange zest and black cherry fruit, pithy, chalky freshness and plush, enveloping tannins. Drinking Window 2025 - 2032

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region

Latricières Chambertin

Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
