  • Goedhuis, November 2018

A beautifully approachable Savigny, with its soft red cherry fruits. This is wine is pure and open. The typical sandy Savigny tannins provide personality and texture on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 91-93

The 2017 Savigny lès Beaune Aux Grands Liards has a tightly wound, focused bouquet of blackberry, raspberry coulis and subtle orange peel aromas that feel harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and very good acidity and energy. Very impressive for a Village Cru - perhaps a Premier Cru in all but name. Highly recommended.

  • Burghound, April 2019, Score: 87-90

A slightly riper and more deeply pitched nose features notes of cassis, dark cherry, pepper and an interesting floral hint. The sleek, vibrant and nicely intense flavors aren't especially concentrated but do offer a bit more depth and persistence on the slightly firmer finish. Drink 2024+

  • Decanter, October 2018, Score: 93

Made with 100% whole bunches, as all the red wines are at this signature Savigny-lès-Beaune domaine, this is a super village site on clay and limestone soils. Pale, gentle and spicy with a whisper of oak and compelling fruit sweetness, this is understated yet complex. Drink 2020-2024

Producer

Domaine Simon Bize et Fils

Domaine Simon Bize is a substantial estate by Burgundy standards, with 22 hectares mainly in the appellation of Savigny Lès Beaune and two fine grand cru parcels in Corton Charlemagne and Latricières Chambertin. It is now under the careful management of Chisa, the late Patrick Bize’s wife, and Marielle Grivot, Patrick’s sister. They like to continue his practice of whole bunch fermentation and gentle handling of the fruit during the vinification process. The result is always very stylish wines, which possess the sweetness of fruit and subtle core of tannins, which are such a character of the wines of Savigny.
