In Nicolas’s view, the berries naturally possessed all the components they needed. Shining bright purple colour, this is a symphony of summer pudding flavours. It has a natural structure and controlled power. Very long and reflects this high-quality lieu dit beautifully.

    The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs has a well-defined, detailed bouquet of great precision (what a bon idée to separate this out from the Gevrey Village in 2015). The palate is medium-bodied with quite dense black fruit and a little tarry in texture, with impressive salinity and focus toward the finish. Recommended. 2022 - 2035

    More moderate though hardly invisible wood treatment sets off the notably ripe earthy black pinot fruit aromas. The texture of the juicy and fleshy medium weight flavors once again contrasts with the dusty finish that displays spiky and slightly tough tannins.

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
