  • Goedhuis, December 2021

The name is said to derive from the Sorb apple which may once have been planted here many centuries ago. There is a high proportion of chalk in the soil which must be a major factor in the vitality of this wine. A very fresh style, the fruit is deep and dark, but has a mineral tension. Bright, full, and long.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 90-92

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Sorbé 1er Cru has a vivacious bouquet with dark cherries, blueberry and light violet scents all nicely defined, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, rich but focused with a fine line of acidity. Velvety smooth on the finish with just a hint of dark chocolate on the aftertaste, this is an excellent Morey-Sant-Denis. Drink 2024 - 2038

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 17+

This is a rather light wine for a Morey, but it works, and the price is not prohibitive. The fruit is clean, and the oak is, again, well managed, and the tannins underpin the flavour well.

Domaine Legros spans 6.5 hectares, covering appellations in Nuits St Georges, Chambolle Musigny and Morey St Denis. It is the epitome of a family holding: winemaker François took on the vineyards from his parents and uncle at the end of the 1980s, and in 1999 he acquired yet more vines from his father-in-law. The latest chapter now sees François joined by his two daughters, Charlotte, a graduate of the Lycée Viticole de Beaune, who manages the vineyard, and Laure, who looks after the commercial side of the business. This estate is clearly going places. It sees a proud, happy father guiding the dynamic, talented and ambitious next generation, with impressive results.Read less

Region

Morey Saint Denis

Morey St. Dénis often suffers from an identity crisis. They are more fruit forward than the wines of Gevrey Chambertin, yet more structured than those of Chambolle Musigny. It seems in this sensethat they are like middle children, always wanting to please yet not standing out as the noisy one or the notably quiet one. They are however crowd pleasers and for those who feel that Gevreys are too muscular and Chambolles too feminine; Moreys seem just right, offering velvety tannins and tangible fruit. The village offers five grand cru vineyards including Clos de la Roche, Clos St. Dénis and Clos des Lambrays which nonetheless can rival those of neighbouring villages in terms of quality (some even view them as the best in the Côte de Nuits) and various premier cru vineyards.
