Goedhuis Waddesdon, October 2024
A delicious melange of summer red berry fruits, raspberries and strawberries. The palate is a little darker, with characters of Moroccan spice and warm toast. A wine of huge depth and intensity which carefully unfolds in the mouth, the fuller tannic profile, provides further depth. A wine which will carefully evolve over the years.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 96-98
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very classy bouquet, as you would expect from this propitious vineyard, though it is understated at first pour, biding its time. It is the most marine-influenced of the Premier Crus, oyster shells infusing the red berry fruit. The medium-bodied palate has finely chiseled tannins, very poised and mineral-driven, pixelated on the long lingering finish. A Clos Saint-Jacques from the very top drawer.Drink 2027-2052.

Burghound, January 2024, Score: 93-95
Here there is just enough wood present to mention along with a suggestion of menthol on the elegant, airy and cool nose of ripe wild dark currant, plum and a plethora of floral nuances. The rich, full-bodied and palate soaking flavors also flash plenty of minerality on the tension-filled, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finale. This is terrific and should age accordingly. Drink 2032+.

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
