The Domaine owns a substantial 1.5 hectares of this steep Grand Cru site. Right from the off, all the indicators that this is a wine of immense complexity are there. The nose is brimming with summer fruit aromas, which are kept in check by nuanced notes of vanilla-infused smoke and cedar wood. No doubt there is power on the palate, but the delicately chalky tannins and sweetness of fruit mean that there is an elegance and restraint to the wine too. The finish is remarkably persistent with mouthwatering acidity and vibrant red fruited accents.

Château de Meursault has gone through some very exciting developments under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, whose family themselves own a highly respected domaine in Aloxe Corton. The vineyards under the Château’s ownership cover an extraordinary 65 hectares, from Savigny Lès Beaune through to Meursault. In 2019 the estate was certified as fully organic, quite an achievement for a domaine of this size, covering so many fine appellations. Against the backdrop of the property’s historical origins, with Cistercian cellars dating back to the 12th century, this dynamic domaine is investing extensively in both the vineyards and the winery, reaching new heights in quality. Stéphane’s wines are classically made. The Chardonnay is fermented in barrel and aged on lees for 12 months before bottling. The reds are beautiful wines, with all the dimensions to age.Read less

Region

Corton

The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
