Offer | Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2022

This week sees the latest release of the year from prominent Super Tuscan estate Ornellaia, with their sublime 2022 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia at £299 per 6 bottles IB.

Le Serre Nuove is the sought-after second wine from Ornellaia, crafted from the same Bordeaux varieties as the grand vin and with the same philosophy. As Decanter points out, “in top vintages, the differences between Le Serre Nuove and its bigger brother are truly minimal.” 2022 presented a tough early growing season due to a notable dry spell in the region. Thankfully, the summer storms provided welcome relief, the vines to continue their ripening. The cooler night-time temperatures in September resulted in fruit that was exceptionally concentrated with the right amount of tannins yielding very high quality wines.

The brightness and purity of fruit is so beautiful here, showing flowers and currants. Very aromatic. Lots of finesse and focus on the medium-bodied palate with super-fine tannins and a lovely finish. Lively. 65% merlot, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc. Why wait on this?

  • GWL, September 2024

Made with the same meticulous attention to details as its celebrated compatriot, the 2022 Le Serre Nuove is a time-tested triumvirate of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The nose is reflective of the wine’s mediterranean origins, where a backdrop of sour cherry and wild blackberry fruit is daubed with accents of lavender, bay leaf, and mint, while on the palate, there are touches of cacao nibs and subtle cinnamon spice alongside more dark fruited flavours. Though the wine possess power, with impressive structure and tannic grip, there remains Serre Nuove’s hallmark freshness and precision, which means that it will only need another year in bottle before drinking. Drink 2025-2042.
