Located in the cool climate region of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this renowned estate produces pure, refined and classicly styled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Current owners Anthony and Olive Hamilton Russell took over from Anthony's father in 1994 who planted the first vines in 1976. This is a cool climate region thanks to the nearby cold South Atlantic and, much like in Burgundy, the soils are extremely rich in iron and clay. This 52 hectares estate seeks to make terroir-driven wines that express the beauty of this privileged site. Head winemaker Emul Ross (formerly of Cape Chamonix in Franschhoek) has converted the estate to organic farming, although they also adhere to biodynamic principles.Read less
