Jasper Morris MW, October 2017, Score: 91-94
Lifted fresh lemon notes to the colour, a really classy nose, showing the benefit of waiting, very old vines here, still in excellent health. There is a really good solid core of fruit to this, plenty of fruit character, a cashmere texture and excellent length.

Drinking window: 2024 - 2032 (these very old vines produced just under 30 hectoliters per hectare in 2016): Pale yellow. Pure but reticent nose hints at white peach, menthol, mint and pungent fresh herbs. A step up in power and grip from the Combettes but not quite as expansive as that wine, at least in the early going. Finishes savory, dry and long, with excellent structure and grip.

Cask sample. Quiet and dusty on the nose. Cool and lightly cedary. Taut and zesty and utterly embryonic and with promise. Mouth-wateringly delicious.
Region
Puligny Montrachet
Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
