  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, March 2024

This organically certified Chardonnay comes from the foothills of the Pyrenees in Limoux where steep slopes and cool nights inject a beautiful freshness in the wine which balances richness of fruit with a zesty vibrancy. We are honoured that the brilliant Domaine Begude make the Hauts de Puits cuvée exclusively for us, is fermented mostly in stainless steel to keep it crisp and fresh but with a touch of barrel fermentation to add some vivid texture. Juicy, mineral-laced, Chardonnay at a fabulous price, it’s one of our go-to wines for everyday drinking.

  • Matthew Jukes, July 2024, Score: 17.5

Swinging in at a sprightly 13% alcohol, this glorious southern French Chardy is smooth, citrus-imbued and dynamic with green apple skin freshness that teases the palate and keeps everything lined up shipshape. Deeply gluggable, this wine is likely to move fast in the glass, leaving an aura of confidence and calm in its wake. While the diminutive price tag might lead you to believe that some degree of compromise is involved when you unscrew the cap, I can assure you that every element of pristine, naked, mineral-soaked Chardonnay is present and correct in Terroir 11300.

  • Jancis Robinson, June 2024, Score: 16.5

So bright and so clean that it's singing like a blackbird. Like biting into a perfectly ripe pear: that juice dripping down your chin, that silk-and-sandy graininess, that almost perfumed sweetness. It is perfectly formed and has really good length – so much more than you'd get from pretty much any other Chardonnay at £12.99. Drink 2024-2025.

The estate lies high in the beautiful foothills of the Pyrenees in the South of France, near Limoux, a village best known for its sparkling wine, Blanquette de Limoux and terrific Chardonnays. The key to Bégude’s excellent balance and freshness is the altitude of the vineyards – a staggering 350 metres above sea level – which ensures a long cool growing season. This fact, coupled with tiny yields, organically certified farming and biodynamic techniques, resulted in grapes of the highest quality.Read less

Region

Languedoc

The Languedoc covers a vast swathe of the south of France, stretching from Nimes in the east to Toulouse in the west. It is home to France’s best value wines, and to appellations as varied as Picpoul de Pinet (a refreshing white wine from the Mediterranean coast) to Minervois (a deeply structured, rustic red wine from the wild hillsides).
