2023 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Elodie Roy
£105.00 In Bond £126.00 Inc VAT (£21.00 Per Bottle)-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
The fruit for this cuvée comes from vines planted in a clay-dominant vineyard at the edge of Maranges in 1963. With fragrant, fresh notes of red cherry and cranberry, this pretty cuvée has immediate appeal. Ripe, gentle tannins add a line of structure to this rounded, soft and eminently approachable Pinot, while a hint of bitter cocoa brings a savoury note to the finish.?

The 2023 Bourgogne Pinot Noir comes from two north-facing parcels on clayey soils from vines planted in 1936 and 1962/63 that tend to millerandage. There is 20-30% whole bunch. It has a perfumed bouquet with rose petal-infused red berry fruit. The 30% new oak is nicely integrated. Its palate is medium-bodied with a citrus-fresh entry and veins of cassis. This has too much sucrosity on the finish compared to the Hautes-Côtes.

2023 Maranges La Rue des Pierres Elodie Roy
£120.00 In Bond-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
The vines for this village-level cuvée were planted in 1972 in vineyards bordering the commune of Santenay. The 2023 is still a little shy, but opens up in the glass to reveal lush notes of Morello cherry and grenadine wrapped in savoury, toasted oak. Clear, mineral-laced acidity and finely grained tannins bring poise and a light-touch structure to this charming wine.

The 2023 Maranges La Rue de Pierres comes from vines planted in 1972 that tend to produce small grapes. It was completely destemmed, taken directly from tank and due for bottling the following week. This has a lovely bouquet with vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry scents. It's quite minerally and tensile, with a well-balanced palate and fine structure. The 35% new oak is neatly integrated, though it will still need 12 months in the bottle to show its best. This is very promising.

Rose petals and iron. Moss and stones and then this really tender heart glowing with raspberry-red sweetness. Lovely earthy undertow. Kind of direct and honest and without frills but utterly delicious. And very long! Peppery end. GV (TC)

2023 Maranges Les Goty Elodie Roy
£130.00 In Bond £156.00 Inc VAT (£26.00 Per Bottle)-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
This vineyard sits immediately over the road and underneath three Premiers Crus sites: Le Clos Roussots, Clos de la Boutière and Petit Clos Rousseau. Elodie’s Le Goty vines produce small, intensely flavoursome berries, which she believes show their best with whole bunch fermentation. 50% of the 2023 was vinified in this way, producing a deliciously fragrant wine that sings with notes of lusciously ripe black cherries, raspberry coulis and a hint of freshly ground black pepper. Broad, fleshy fruit sweetness gives a lovely volume to the wine’s core, which is gently encased by tannins with a pleasing, chalky grip. A bright line of freshness enlivens the lightly spiced finish.

Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 90
The smallest cuvée of the range, the 2023 Maranges Le Goty includes around 60% whole clusters. It has a fresh nose with brambly red fruit notes laced with a hint of white pepper. This is very French and enticing. The palate is lively, crisp, taut and fresh. It's more peppery than the La Rue de Pierres with a crunchy textured finish. Very fine.

Strawberries on the nose and then warm hay and tannins that feel like tentacles and punctuation marks. Strawberry sweetness and charm. (TC)

2023 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravieres Elodie Roy
£160.00 In Bond £192.00 Inc VAT (£32.00 Per Bottle)-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
In the 19th century, the vineyards of Santenay were prized above those of Côte de Nuits appellations such as Vosne Romanée. Although the commune has since been overlooked in favour of its northerly neighbours, Les Gravières continues to enjoy its reputation as the best-known Premier Cru in Santenay. The light, stony soils implied in the name, coupled with old vines planted in 1952, have produced an excellent wine this vintage. With beguiling notes of Morello cherry and pomegranate, accompanied by a whisp of dried wild herbs, this Pinot entices from the outset. Relaxed and already very open, the generous fruit sweetness is underpinned by elegant, refined tannins and a lift of stone-driven acidity.

Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 91
The 2023 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru comes from the steep section toward Chassagne from 0.52 hectares of vines planted in 1952/53 with an easterly orientation. Vinified with 20% whole cluster, it has a well-defined and understated bouquet with raspberry and cranberry scents. The 30% new oak is neatly integrated. Its palate is medium-bodied with subtle white pepper and clove notes, vivacious red berry fruit and a nicely composed, quite persistent finish. This is well worth seeking out.

Cherry and cinnamon. Open-hearted sweetness of fruit and then tannins which kick in firmly but gently. Crushed-mint freshness on the finish. Good length. These Elodie Roy wines are over-delivering for the price. GV (TC)
