Spotlight on Margaret River Chardonnay | Moss Wood, Pierro, Leeuwin, Cullen & Cherubino
For Vinous, “Margaret River is liquid gold… it is a chameleon that has successfully pivoted as styles have changed over the years”. Despite its international success as one of the world's greatest cool climate regions, the region has retained its down-to-earth feel, with small family businesses dominating the landscape. Only 60 miles long and 17 miles wide, with a strong maritime influence from its Indian Ocean coastline, this was one of the first Australian regions to explore marginal climates.
In doing so, it discovered its propensity for producing exceptional Chardonnay. All the wines on offer below are made from the famed Gingin clone, which is believed to have origins in Burgundy and has a proven track record for delivering fruit that is intense, concentrated and punchy, with high natural acidity, all qualities that lead to wonderfully complex and age-worthy wines that are comparable to some of the finest Burgundian whites.
