  • Goedhuis, September 2023

The sensational 2013 rendition of Comtes de Champagne is one of the very rare vintages to be harvested in October. This uniquely long growing season has given a wine of racy, cool energy and fabulous finesse. Alive with energy, we love its vivid citrus atop dried flowers, crushed chalk and nougat. The nervy tensile palate is filled with crystalline fruit and mouth-watering, flaky pastry while the famous cool chalk soils give a snappy salinity and powdery mineral texture. Incisive and precise, it is a gorgeous portrayal of this elegant vintage which you can enjoy now and in decades to come. Made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from the famous limestone and marl-rich Grands Crus of the Cote des Blancs region, including the villages of Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger.

  • James Suckling, September 2023, Score: 98

Nervy and tight with notes of crushed almonds, chalk, white grapefruit, digestive biscuits, lemons and apricot stones. Hints of fennel and white pepper. Deep and mineral, with plenty of power. Very fine bubbles. Long drive at the end. Try after 2024.

  • Vinous, September 2023, Score: 98

The 2013 Comtes de Champagne captures all the pedigree of this great vintage in its energy, depth and vibrancy. Lemon confit, dried flowers, chamomile, spice and crushed rocks all race across the palate. Passionfruit, ginger, marzipan and mint appear later, filling out the layers beautifully. Harvest took place in October in what has become the exception rather than the norm in Champagne. Drink 2023-2043.

  • Goedhuis, August 2023

The Leistenberg vines are southeast facing, and bathe in the morning sun, which builds up both complex fruit flavours and keeps the grapes in good health, drying out any night-time moisture. This is a flawless example of Kabinett, offering up a blend of spicy ginger and fragrant lemon balm pitched against a backdrop a mouthwatering acidity.

  • Vinous, August 2023, Score: 92

The 2022 Riesling Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett beckons with a white peach hint on the nose. The palate is serene, edging its peachiness with lemon fruit and zest, tingling with stone and coating the mouth with an astringent, delicious acidity. This lovely high-wire act juxtaposes 9+ g/l of acidity with full-fruited, citric sweetness. The sinuses almost short-circuit between acidity and fruit. Helmut says, "I would never have thought in that summer that this would work. I never expected this." This is the benefit of this lateral valley and its east-exposition. To him, Kabinett is a "particular talent" of this vineyard. The 2022 is simply lovely, balanced, vivid and delicious. Drink 2023-2045.

The Boillot family make a very classy Montagny, using the same winemaking techniques as they do in Puligny Montrachet. White peach and clementine give a graceful texture, with flavours of pavlova and fresh Jersey cream. Full and flavoursome and superb value.

  • Goedhuis, December 2023

Always a wine with a huge amount of self-confidence, this has rich exotic fruit flavours of melon and lychee, with an attractive glycerol texture, creamy and buttery with a charming silky finish.

  • Burghound, June 2024, Score: 90-92

This is aromatically quite similar to the Gruyaches but with noticeably more mineral reduction character. The racy and beautifully detailed middleweight flavors display an almost aggressive stoniness on the chiseled, youthfully austere and equally dry finale where the citrus character, while present, is a bit less prominent. This is also a very good wine for its level and recommended. Outstanding Top Value

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 90-93

Pale lemon. A delicious mineral nose, even if less evident these days when the grapes are riper. Indeed generous ripe fruit comes up behind. Enough tension, and a graceful, detailed hillside finish. Softer right at the finish, Drink from 2028-2036.

  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, February 2025

Canalicchio’s Rosso is the perfect entry point and essentially the calling card for estate’s Brunello di Montalcino offering purity and elegance in a deliciously approachable style. The 2023 opens with red cherry, pomegranate and cranberry whilst boasting notes of dark plum, violet and spice. Soft, fine tannins flow across the palate balanced by splashes of juicy vibrant fruit and fresh herbs. If there’s a better value Rosso on the market we are yet to see it.

Radiant purple colour, with a floral and scented bouquet of freshly picked Victoria plums and red cherry. This Merlot-based wine is lively and fresh, and extremely inviting already. The lovely brightness flows into gorgeous palate, packed with harmonious juicy ripe fruit. A mineral touch and savoury notes add an attractive bite of energy and complexity on the finish. Superb value.

  • Wine Advocate, May 2021, Score: 90-92+

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Vieux Château Saint André comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of Morello cherries, juicy black plums and fresh blueberries, plus hints of bay leaves, lavender and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is coated with vibrant red and black fruit layers with loads of mineral accents and a soft, plush texture, finishing long and refreshing. Drink 2024-2039

  • Goedhuis, December 2020

With 11.2 hectares of village Savigny, Domaine Bize has an expanse of vineyards, the oldest planted in 1939 and the most recent in 1979. Always an archetypal Savigny, this is perfumed with wild Alpine fruits so typical of whole cluster winemaking. This comprises layers of sweet flowing fruit underpinned by fine-grained tannins and a gentle touch of freshness. This is a great introduction to the domaine’s classic style.

  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 91-93

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Grands Liards has a very well-defined, focused bouquet of blackberry, briar, cracked black pepper and hints of vervain tea. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and again, quite peppery in style, leading to a harmonious, elegant finish. Very suave. Drink 2023 - 2036

  • Wine Advocate, Janaury 2020, Score: 90-92

One of the more muscular wines in the range is the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Grands Liards, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping wine evocative of blackberries, rose petals, dried herbs and spices. Its generous core of fruit largely conceals a chassis of fine, youthfully chalky tannin.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2020, Score: 88-91

Medium deep purple, considerable elegance to the nose, a marriage of discretion with depth of fruit. This offers tension, volume, precision, and power with some liquorice notes after the dark raspberry. 4 stars

  • Matthew Jukes, July 21, Score: 20

Utterly spectacular. The balance, the blend, the finesse and the poise here is sensational. Such class and control and a multitude of flavour facets, none of which are hurried, cramped or in a rush to impress, The flavours are orderly, charming, polite and all-pervasive. This is a tour de force and one of the finest DM I have ever tasted.

  • Decanter, July 21, Score: 98

Vanya Cullen is the tannin whisperer. Here, the finest of fine tannins are saturated deep within the fresh dark berry and currant fruit, conferring a dryness to the palate. This lends gravitas, without detracting from the fruit purity and sheer fluid grace of delivery. Finely honed, the fruit is perfumed with roses, violets, tobacco, bitter chocolate and cedar. A pronounced graphite and gravel undertow persists through the prolonged, elegant finish. Drink 2021-2035.

  • Jancis Robinson, July 21, Score: 18.5

Deep dark red. Elegant aroma which is marked by cassis and a light leafiness and a suggestion of Cabernet Franc's characteristic blackcurrant-leaf quality. Dry, refined tannins giving a dry mineral character. Plush and full in the mouth, the mineral character as much in the tannins as in flavour. ‘Toast to mum’, says Vanya Cullen. Smoky but not reductive. Layers of paper-fine tannins. Elegant. Opens up to a slight note of curry leaf. Or is it tobacco, or both? Very, very dry without being drying. Ultimate in refinement. Drink 2022-2033.

  • Huon Hooke, July 21, Score: 98

Deep red-purple colour leads into a bouquet that`s already very complex, with violet, blueberry, raspberry, cherry and many other fruit aromas. The oak is beautifully handled, the tannins formidable but balanced. 98 points.

  • James Halliday, July 21

Deep purple hues with aromas of violets, wild rose, mulberry, satsuma plum and cigar box. A light and intense palate with balanced but opulent fruit-density, fine tannins and flavours of rose, chocolate, ironstone, cigar box and plum. Cellar up to 50 years.
