Lismore Estate | standard bearers for contemporary Cape winemaking

Famed for her focused and deeply complex wines, pioneering winemaker Samantha O’Keefe of Lismore Estate is behind some of South Africa’s greatest expressions of winemaking skill. Tucked away in the foothills of the remote Riviersonderend mountains, Greyton is home to one of the country’s coolest and most extreme conditions and the region shares climatic similarities with northern Rhône. Here the grapes ripen later than most and, when entrusted to the viticultural expertise of O’Keefe, the resulting wines are full of complexity, elegance, and a precision of fruit. The latest releases are nothing short of exceptional, reaffirming O’Keefe’s place at the forefront of Cape winemaking.

    The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Fermented was whole-bunch-pressed and oxidatively handled. It saw 10% skin contact and spent 11 months on the lees in 5% new French oak. This has what you might call a gentle nose, with scents of nettle and Golden Delicious. The palate is just wonderful: crisp green apple mixed with kiwi fruit and a touch of white pepper. This is simply one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I tasted in the Cape during my trip.

  • IN BOND prices exclude UK Duty and VAT. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries. Duty and VAT must be paid before delivery can take place.

  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • En Primeur wines can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.

  • EP: En Primeur. These wines are lying in the Domaines’ cellars until shipping. They can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.
