2020 Gevrey Chambertin Carougeots Domaine Trapet Rochelandet

Goedhuis, October 2023
A very appealing example of village Gevrey Chambertin from this centrally located lieu die sitting just below La Petite Chapelle. A wonderful introduction to Laurent’s style of fruit forward wine making, Sensual and forward, the tannins are subtle, giving a delicate fine sandy texture. The fruit flavours alive and energetic moving across the spectrum of fresh pure red cherry to hints of tayberry and damson. The refreshing acidity on the finish lifts the flavours. T0his is a 2020 wine already showing its appeal and entering a wonderful early drinking window.
2020 Gevrey Chambertin Les Champs Chenys Domaine Trapet Rochelandet

Goedhuis, October 2023
On the Morey St Denis side of the village of Gevrey lying just below Grand Cru Charmes Chambertin, this is a very rewarding wine. A little bolder in depth and density than the Carougeots, it combines the layered weight and structure of a classical Gevrey, with some deep dark morello cherry and currant flavours in harmony with hints of charm and opulence more akin to a Morey and its neighbouring vineyard. Full bodied, with layers of depth it can be approached now, but will also benefit from additional bottle age.

This is one of Gevrey’s finest 1er Crus, huge respected by the senior vignerons in the village. It is only less recognised because of its smallness in size, 2.5 ha, and having only 5 owners who make the wine. Brilliantly positioned above Grand Crus Chambertin Clos de Beze and alongside Ruchottes Chambertin, this is a full, deep and succulent wine. Flavours of summer pudding, laced with a touch of liquorice and vanilla pod, the depth of fruit coats the mouth. A degree of muscle giving a sensation of Grand Cru distinction, carefully tempered by the nuances of wild berry fruits and given harmony by the sweetness of flavours so typical of the vintage and a mouth-watering freshness on the finish. Quite excellent.
