  • Goedhuis, April 2004

A delicious Chasse Spleen packed with fruit, but very powerful. It tasted like a Classed Growth, but mercifully it does not have the price tag. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc this is a star Cru Bourgeois.

  • Robert Parker, August 2014, Score: 90

Soft and voluptuous with plenty of red and black currant fruit notes intermixed with licorice, spice box and underbrush, this well-made, medium to full-bodied 2003 has good precision and freshness. Enjoy this beautiful Moulis over the next 2-3 years.

  • Robert Parker, April 2006, Score: 86

Plum, black currant, and cherry fruit are present in this medium-bodied, soft, blatantly commercially-styled Moulis. Designed for early consumption, it should be drunk over the next 5-7 years. Drink: Now-2013

  • Decanter, April 2004

Deep ruby, herbaceous blackcurrant Cabernet nose, good concentration and very good, sweet-fruit middle palate, with silky tannins and a lovely finish. A concentrated yet balanced and sophisticated wine. Drink: Now-2020.

Producer

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.

Region

Moulis

Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
