En Primeur | Maison Roche de Bellene

Maison Roche de Bellene is the creation of Nicolas Potel, who grew up at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay. He holds dear the historic négociant values, finding and blending the best cuvées to represent the individuality of an appellation. He has verbal contracts with growers throughout the Côte d’Or, allowing him to maintain positions for the most prized vineyards. Occasionally he might lose a parcel but, on the plus side, it gives him flexibility to find new ones and make exciting additions to his range.

More About Roche de Bellene

The history of the negociants in Burgundy is a long one, dating back to the 17th century, long predating the arrival of domaine-labelled wines in the early 1900s. Their skill was in selection, tasting, blending and crucially an in-depth knowledge of where to seek out the finest casks of finished wine within any given appellation. The great names grew from their ability to buy and understand the compatibility of their chosen casks, so that once blended their sum was greater than the parts. Whilst it is fashionable to focus on domaine-labelled wines today, the négociant’s established traditions and values still hold true and continue play an important part in Burgundy’s fine wine market. Maison Roche de Bellene, founded by Nicolas Potel in 2008 is a relative newcomer, but in a short space of time has firmly established itself as one of the best in the market.

Pricing

  • IN BOND prices exclude UK Duty and VAT. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries. Duty and VAT must be paid before delivery can take place.

  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

Additional Information

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • En Primeur wines can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.

Availability

  • NOW – These wines are available immediately.

  • LATER – These wines are available later. If you buy for delivery, we will contact you on arrival to schedule a delivery date.
    If you buy for storage, your wines will be transferred automatically on arrival.

Tax status

  • IB: In Bond. These wines have had no UK Duty or VAT paid on them. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries.

  • DP: Duty Paid. Wines for immediate UK delivery must be purchased Duty Paid. VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. Wines which have been removed from Bond cannot subsequently be returned to Bond. They must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • EP: En Primeur. These wines are lying in the Domaines’ cellars until shipping. They can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.
