  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Though a bit reticent on the nose, the 2009 Bonnes Mares carries forth a plump palate of sweet red and black cherries and damson plums. Spicy new oak tries to take centre stage, yet its beautiful core of juicy fruit never lets go of the reins and leads it to a lifted, bright finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 91-93

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. A little muted at first, the Bonnes-Mares suddenly wakes up in the glass and offers a taut, mineral rich bouquet with great definition. The palate is supple on the entry, a slight gourmand note on the back palate, building nicely with a slight savoury, sinewy finish with a digestif aftertaste.

  • Burghound, January 2011, Score: 91-93

This is also quite restrained, indeed almost shy with a muted nose of dark berry fruit and earth that gives way to extremely fresh, supple and surprisingly forward flavors that almost instantly tighten up into a backwards and very firm and austere finish. This is a classically styled andproportioned Bonnes Mares that will require at least 15 years of cellar time.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 17.5

Particularly blue tinge. Broad, sumptuous and already appealing on the nose – in stark contrast to wines from this producer tasted earlier. Still quite firm and chestnutty on the palate. This should develop into something really quite special – eventually.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Bonnes Mares

Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
