  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Les Cras always produces a very structured Chambolle and the 2009 highlights this style. The supple loganberry flavours are uplifted with fine and ripe tannins which provide an added depth to the wine on the finish. Very good indeed.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 91-93

This has a light, well-defined bouquet with a little more panache than the Domaine's other 2009Chambolles. The palate is well balanced with peppery red-berried fruits, nicely balance with good grip towards the finish. Harmonious and well crafted, this is possibly their best 2009.

  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 94

This is also exceptionally fresh and bright with relatively deeply pitched aromas of primarily red and blue pinot fruit that are in keeping with the rich and intensely mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth of material on the firm, long and gorgeously balanced finish. This is terrific juice though note that patience is part of the price of entry. A knockout. 2019+.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 17

Mossy, fragile, nervy nose. Lots of acidity and tannin. A bit more aggressive. Not sure I would pay the premium, for this (admittedly ambitious) wine.

After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
