Burghound, January 2011, Score: 91-94
A beautifully layered nose of plum, underbrush and red currant merges into seductively textured but firm and powerful flavors blessed with an abundance of extract on the mouth coating finish that is quite robust and is given shape by the very firm but buried tannins. This possesses excellent balance and should be capable of aging very well over the next 15 to 25 years. Drink: 2024+.

Burghound, January 2012, Score: 94
A beautifully layered, even perfumed nose of plum, underbrush and very ripe red currant merges into seductively textured but firm and powerful flavors blessed with an abundance of structure-buffering extract on the mouth coating finish. This is a notably robust effort that is given shape by the very firm but buried tannins and I like the excellent balance. This big-bodied effort really fans out on the gorgeously long finish and it should be capable of aging very well over the next 12 to 15 years. Drink: 2012+.

Charmes Chambertin
Charmes-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. On gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north, gravelly soil forces the vines to work hard. Relatively large for a Grand Cru appellation, it is hard to generalise about the wines. Often intensely perfumed and seductive, Charmes-Chambertin can be approachable earlier than its Grand Crus neighbours.
