Goedhuis, January 2011
The majority of Champeaux's vines date from 1919, and this age and wisdom reveal themselves in its2009. Zen and quietly confident, it delivers an impressive palate of sweet, layered fruit which is voluminous and expansive. Its slightly brooding mid-palate and exceptional length further suggests that there is much more yet to come.

Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 93-95
A blend of casks prepared by Jean-Marie, the Chapeaux has a beautiful, floral bouquet with crisp strawberry and maraschino cherry, hints of rose petal and apricot blossom in the background. Intoxicating. The palate is beautifully balanced with silky smooth tannins, very harmonious and pure with great precision on the tightly coiled finish. Bon vin!

Burghound, January 2011, Score: 90-93
Here too the nose is quite reduced. The middle weight flavors though are less strict as there is good accessibility to the slightly bigger and richer medium-bodiedflavors that sacrifice a bit of detail for better overall length. I ever so slightly prefer this to the prior Gevrey 1ers and it shouldbenefit from up to a decade of cellar time.

Tim Atkin, February 2011, Score: 94
Darker and denser than many of the Fourrier 2009s, with more marked tannins thansome, this is rich and opulent on the palate with well-integrated oak and a stylishfinish.
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
