Goedhuis, January 2011
Clos St Jacques is a ‘tour de force' in 2009 with its ample and mouthfilling fruit palate, displaying crunchy notes of red currant and sweet, zesty spice and damson plum. Sappy and velvety yet fine tuned. This finishes long, pure and lifted.

Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 91-93
This has a fresh, very natural bouquet with red cherries, strawberry and raspberry leaf with fine delineation. The palate is fresh and vibrant with citrus fresh acidity, crisp and clinical with poised redcurrant, cherry and a slightly bitter finish that enhances the tension and energy within this wine. Excellent.

Burghound, January 2011, Score: 92-94
This storied terroir often produces one of the most elegant and sophisticated of all the 26 Gevrey 1ers with the gorgeously refined red berry fruit nose suffused by an almost pungent minerality that continues onto the supple, fresh and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent concentration and a stunning, even explosive if firmly structured finish. This is an intense wine of harmony and drive with everything it needs for a long life.

Tim Atkin, February 2011, Score: 96
The final blend has only 20% new oak, so as not to overwhelm the fruit. Fennel, redfruits, some cedarwood and ginger spice are all intertwined on the palate. Long andcomplete.
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
