    The 2014 Puligny Montrachet Village has a crisp and slightly herbaceous bouquet, a hint of grass clipping in the background. The palate is well balanced, hints of citrus lemon and white peach with a dab of lemongrass, fanning out gently on the composed, flinty finish. This is a perfectly decent Puligny Villages in the making. Drink 2017-2027

    (from several different lieux-dits, 30% of which is from Brélance with major contributions from Les Tremblots and Grands Champs). Here the nose is both more elegant and more complex with a similar aromatic profile though there are a bit more white orchard fruit and floral elements discernible. There is good detail and a pretty touch of minerality that comes through on the solidly well-concentrated flavors that culminate in a lovely finish of fine depth and length. This is a lovely Puligny villages and worth considering. Drink 2021+

    The nose is more reserved…some floral notes… It is tight, pure and straight. It is neatly edged and precise. Straight as a die, very pure and lively stream of freshness. This is excellent, it has the succulence around the minerality. Very intense. Absolutely top notch…this shows it’s minerality….

The domaine was founded by Joseph Leflaive, who came to Burgundy in 1905. Anne-Claude Leflaive, the granddaughter of Joseph was appointed to run the domaine in 1990. A fervent proponent of biodynamic viticulture, Anne-Claude converted the domaine to biodynamics. After her untimely death in 2015, Brice de La Morandiere's, Anne-Claude's nephew and great grand son of Joseph Leflaive took on the mantle. He upholds the terroir-orientated, sustainable winemaking philosophy of the family.Read less

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune.Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
