  • Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 86

The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge Terres de Famille includes some declassified village crus, including red Beaune and young vines from Clos de Thorey, Volnay and Evocelles. It has a pretty bouquet with red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is taut on the entry, fresh and tart with a tang of orange rind mixing with the ferrous red fruit on the finish.

In bottle. Components include Beaune Montée rouge, and the young vines from Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin Evocelles and Nuits-St-Georges Clos de Thorey. Fine bright purple. Medium density, with some raspberry and strawberry fruit, quite firm tannins behind, good length, the juicy fruit reappearing at the back. Will absolutely do its job.

Region

Bonnes Mares

Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
