Goedhuis, December 2017
The estate has purchased a new large oak tank to vinify the RSV, first used in 2016. As a result, the élevage of this cuvée has taken place in two- and three-year-old barrels. There is a rich, complex intensity here, with voluminous dark fruit and cinnamon spice married to the fine, supple tannins. Although Géraldine likes to make Pinots that can be enjoyed in youth, she does concede that this will benefit from a little bottle age, such is its stature.

Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 93-95
The 2016 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru includes 100% whole cluster but no new oak. This is because the fermentation was conducted in a new 15-hectoliter wooden tank, so the élevage is done in one-, two- and three-year-old barrels to reduce the wood influence. It has a very feminine, precise bouquet with dark cherries, raspberry, bergamot tea and just a hint of crushed rose petals, not powerful but nicely detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, slightly crunchy in texture, thanks to the stem addition, and very well poised with a mineral-driven finish that flourishes on the aftertaste. This is another excellent contribution to the vintage from the domaine, although here I probably have a preference for the 2015. Drink 2021-2045

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 92-95
Once again there is a subtle touch of wood evident on the ripe and almost ostentatiously spicy nose of violet, lavender, clove and red cherry scents. There is impressive concentration to the middle weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a seductive mouthfeel as well as buffers the borderline robust tannins shaping the wonderfully persistent finish. This is a big RSV and like the Forêts St. Georges, a wine that is going to require extended keeping. Drink: 2031+

Romanée Saint Vivant
Romanée-St-Vivant, which takes its name from the monastery of St-Vivant founded in c. 900, is a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. It is the largest of Vosne-Romanée's six Grands Crus and produces red wine only. The vineyard is located on the slope to the north of the town of Vosne-Romanée and is the nearest vineyard to this village. Romanée-Saint-Vivant's soils are deep and rich in clay and lime, which means the wines of Romanée-St-Vivant are usually lighter and less powerful than its neighbours'. Domaine de la Romanée Conti is the largest proprietor, owning over half of the area's 9.5 ha.
