  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The fine terroir of this vineyard really highlights the under-appreciated potential of Marsannay. The 100% destemming of this cuvée allows the abundant red summer fruit characters to shine through. The wine has a tight tannic core, a lovely line of fresh acidity and a sweet redcurrant finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 90-92

The 2018 Marsannay Les Longeroies, matured in 25% new oak, has a well-defined blackberry and raspberry bouquet with veins of blue fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers svelte tannins and fine acidity. Very cohesive, with an elegant finish. Excellent. 2022 - 2032

  • Burghound, January 2020, Score: 88-91

A deft application of wood sets off very ripe yet fresh aromas of plum and dark currants that are also cut with plenty of earth nuances. The sleek, intense and lightly stony medium weight flavors culminate in a delicious and balanced finish that is at once mildly austere and rustic. Drink 2024+

  • Wine Advocate, January 2020, Score: 92-92

Bursting with aromas of raspberries, cherries, woodsmoke, rich soil and grilled meats, the 2018 Marsannay Les Longeroies is medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, with fine tannins and a lively, vibrant core of fruit. This represents a fine introduction to the appellation and to the domaine's style.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2020, Score: 16.5+

Spicy and ripe. Really dark fruit with a hint of vanilla. Refined rather than open, dry and more spicy/savoury than fruity. Dry tannins and good length. Structured for the longer term. (JH) Drink 2023 – 2030

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 89-91

Two plots, one 30 year old in pinot fin and a 60 to 70 year old section. Dense rich purple, more stuffing but less immediate bouquet than the Bourgogne. A wealth of fruit, lovely balanced wine with a fine long finish.

For many years, Dénis Mortet worked passionately to create one of the most sought after domaines in Burgundy. He learned about winemaking while working with his father Charles, a cousin of Charles Rousseau. From the early 1990s he built his vineyard area to almost 10 hectares dispersed throughout Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Fixin and Marsannay. His exceptional determination and self-criticism drove him in pursuit of the holy grail of Gevrey Chambertin. Year-in and year-out, he aimed for higher and higher ideals believing that there was always better, always purer. Sadly, he has not lived to see his results. After his tragic death in 2006 at the age of just 51, his son, Arnaud, took over vineyard management and winemaking. Since then, this domaine has been soaring to ever-greater heights. In Dénis’s era the wines had been admired for their opulence, but in the past decade Arnaud has redefined the Mortet style as one that ascends towards a pinnacle of finesse and elegance. The dextrous handling of each parcel means the Fixin and Marsannay are as interesting talking points as the Lavaux St Jacques and Clos de Vougeot. The domaine has forged a reputation for organic viticulture par excellence, and the dedicated work in the vineyards is abundantly clear in the cellar. Arnaud has an astonishing gift for managing whole bunch fruit and matching new oak to his pure, crystalline wines.Read less
