  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The thin topsoil and dense limestone subsoil of Les Perrières helps to create a wine with bright, citrus fruit purity and great balance in this vintage. Gentle lime colour with notes of jasmine and peach. This is graceful and direct, with its characteristic line of minerality. Lively, energetic and just totally uplifting.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 90-92

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru comes from a single plot that touches Les Referts, the vines around 45 years old. This has a little more richness on the nose with candle wax/resin aromas joining the malic fruit, perhaps even a little "Chassagne" in style. The palate is well balanced with, again, a little more depth and weight than the other Premier Crus from Sauzet, though it does not quite display the same nervosité on the finish. I commend the spiciness on the aftertaste, but I hope this will develop more tension by the time of bottling. 2022 - 2035

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 90-92

A cooler and markedly more restrained nose is composed by notes of mineral reduction, pretty floral wisps and a variety of citrus-tinged white orchard fruit. There is fine volume to the racy, intense and well-delineated medium weight flavors exude more obvious minerality on the super-saline and attractively refreshing linear finish where the citrus character flashed by the nose reemerges. • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 91-93

A little pale lemon colour, the nose is weighty but not quite so fresh as Referts. Intense on the palate, it’s the wood which has not quite integrated so well: apparently this is usual at this stage. There is good acidity here with a low pH but the whole has not yet found its harmony.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
