  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 91-93

Carillon noted that this has been racked the morning of my visit and not surprisingly the nose was dominated by the SO2 addition. More interesting are the voluminous, enveloping and opulent larger-scaled and very rich flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that also buffers the firmer acid spine shaping the slightly longer and more complex finale. Excellent development potential here. Drink 2028+ Sweet spot Outstanding

Pale lemon colour, with quite a heady nose. This shows a little bit of heat. I think I am going to prefer Perrières this year. But not on the palate where the racy mineral feeling absolutely rides through the middle. Plenty of flesh here. No feeling of dilution at all. Final peach aromatics return at the end. Utterly delicious but I would not want this any riper.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
