  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 94-96

The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a succinct and almost understated bouquet with tea leaf and light dried blood/ferrous aromas tincturing the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, beautifully judged acidity, very refined with a touch of cracked black pepper that enlivens the sustained finish. Maybe it does not possess the bravura of the Clos de la Roche, but still a beautiful Clos Saint-Denis. I would not be surprised if it lands at the top of my banded score. Drink 2024-2048.

  • William Kelley, December 2021, Score: 97

The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is performing superbly in bottle, soaring from the glass with scents of cherries, red berries, rose petals, orange peel and exotic spices. Full-bodied, ample and sensual, it’s seamless and complete, with a velvety attack that segues into a vibrant core of fruit, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. Drink 2025-2065.

Jacques spent several years learning winemaking from the late, great Gerard Potel at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or and he has been a great proponent of including the stems in fermentation. Over the years, Jacques and his wife Rosalind expanded the domaine and today the family has 15.5 hectares including seven grands crus. Today, two of their children, Jeremy and Alec, as well as Jeremy’s wife Diana, have joined the Jacques and Rosalind in the family business which continues to be one of Burgundy’s leading domaines.Read less

Region

Clos Saint-Denis

Tucked between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and sharing the same stratum of limestone, Morey-St-Denis is unfairly less celebrated than its better known neighbours. It boasts five Grand Crus, including Clos-St-Denis. Slightly lighter than Clos-de-la-Roche, Clos Saint-Denis' wines balance delicacy, finesse and wonderful Pinot fruit - the quintessential Grand Cru of Morey-St-Denis.
