  • Burghound, January 2022, Score: 92-95

Intensely floral notes of rose petal, lavender, violet and acacia add both elegance and breadth to the dark cherry and wonderfully spicy aromas. The rich, dense and highly seductive medium weight plus flavors possess a dusty, mouth coating impressively complex finish that delivers outstanding length. This is also going to require at least some patience but should mature into a seriously good Ech. Drink: 2035+

One block runs north-south which is a boon in hotter conditions. Fine glowing purple, elegance and concentration on the nose, more in red fruits rather than the riper characters, saline notes behind, this has retained its latticework detail which is for me a classic signature of Echezeaux.

Over the years, Jacques and his wife Rosalind expanded the domaine and today the family has 15.5 hectares including seven grands crus. Today, two of their children, Jeremy and Alec, as well as Jeremy’s wife Diana, have joined the Jacques and Rosalind in the family business which continues to be one of Burgundy’s leading domaines.Read less

Region

Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
