  • Burghound, January 2022, Score: 86-89

Airy and cool aromas of layered red currant and plum give way to vibrant, delineated and saline-inflected flavors that offer reasonably good depth on the sneaky long finish. Once again, this boxes above its weight for what it is. Outstanding

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 86-87

Aux Chaumes is next door to the well-known Dames Huguettes vineyard, and these are low-trained vines in a plot of 1.35ha. Equally deep purple, the fruit showing a limestone vibrancy, ripe but in balance. Compared to the Bourgogne Pinot Noir, there is slightly more acidity and the fruit does not fill the mouth quite so well. Just a slight suggestion of cooking the fruit though it stays red.

  • William Kelley, January 2022, Score: 89-921

From soils that are richer in clay, the 2020 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Aux Chaumes exhibits aromas of cherries, plums and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, soft and velvety palate that's seamless and charming.

Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

Located at the top of the slopes and on the plateau above the celebrated villages of the Cotes de Nuits a dozen or so villages can claim this appellation. Given their altitude full ripeness is not guaranteed every year, so Hautes-Cotes status is only awarded after tasting. Principally reds from Pinot Noir, with a smattering of whites, these wines can be delicious and excellent value from the best vineyard sites.
