A lieu dit that neighbours the Premier Cru Meix Cadot. Remi’s focus is to allow the fruit to shine through in this fine cuvée, perfectly expressing the vineyards south easterly exposition and clay-limestone soil structure. Vinification and élevage is all in vats, giving a rewardingly abundant pure yellow stone fruits, marrying perfectly with some viscous charm. Soft and gentle on the finish, with a nip of acid lift, both cleansing and refreshing the palate.

In recent years we have set ourselves an exciting challenge to develop our Burgundy portfolio beyond the great names of the Côte d’Or. Whilst the wines from Burgundy’s heartland will always be our flagship, worldwide demand has meant that prices are not necessarily attainable foe everyone. However, just a little further south just below Chagny, the Côte Chalonnaise is as exciting as it gets for value for money and terrific Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. But finding the next hot thing is never quite as easy as it sounds. However, thanks to a tip-off from Vincent Charton, a favourite producer of ours in in Mercurey, we discovered young Remi Dury of Domaine Jacques Dury. Only in his mid-20s, Remi has already begun turning a few heads since taking over from his father and grandfather, winning the highly prestigious Côte Chalonnaise young winemaker of the year 2023 award, which Vincent himself won just a few years ago. Thanks to a great week at the Grands de Jours Bourgogne and Vincent’s tip, we were able to taste Remi’s wines and then visit the domaine. This is an old-fashioned estate; blink and you will miss the gates. Remi’s relaxed, charming nature flows through into his wines. His father Hervé maintains the vineyards using his vast experience of the soil and land, allowing Remi to concentrate on the winery. 80% of the production is devoted to white wines, and, whilst they avoid an excess of new oak, the proportion of barrel aging for the whites is rising.

Region

Rully

Just to the south of the celebrated Cote d'Or lie the vineyards of the Cote Chalonnaise. Rully is tucked in the northern tip of the area and produces both white and red wines. The whites made from Chardonnay can have considerable finesse and are excellent value compared to their grand neighbours. The reds can also be very classic Pinot Noir - pure, elegant, berry fruit and violets. In general both are more suited to early drinking than ageing in a dusty cellar.
