William Kelley, June 2024
From a high altitude single vineyard on the coast, this wine takes its name from the Boekkeveld clay and shale soils on which the grapes are grown. This special terroir forms the basis for a Grand Cru-contesting Chardonnay, which is both generous and layered. Rich, white stone fruits are at the forefront of this wine, with hints of grapefruit and salted hazelnuts, while there is a liveliness that carries through on the finish and keeps the wine feeling fresh.
Region
Hemel-en-Aarde
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is a ward within the Walker Bay district of South Africa. Meaning 'Heaven on Earth', this beautiful valley has the Cape's highest proprtion of Pinot Noir. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also flourish here thanks to the cooling influence of the Atalantic to the South and the Babylon mountains to the North. Ancient glacial soils make this region a geological wonder capable of producing hugely complex wines.
