DOMAINE D'AUSSIÈRES | CORBIÈRES, FRANCE

Aussières was built on a fertile ecosystem where nature and people come together to learn from each other and create. Our village is very much a living place, where dialogue is the cardinal value. A dialogue of many kinds: between the elements, between the generations that have laboured its grounds, between its villagers and craftsmen, and between the wine world’s different schools of thought. That is what moves us forward, ultimately creating wines that tell a story of place, respect and nuance.

WINE MAKER | Jean de Roquefeuil

WINE MAKER | Jean de Roquefeuil

Jean has been writing a new chapter in the story of Domaine d’Aussières since November 2022. His experience and attention to the land are evident in his ability to reveal the splendour and authenticity of each vineyard, even the most demanding ones.
"It’s an amazing place" he testifies, "you are often pleasantly surprised. It’s a challenging terroir to reveal, but when you succeed, it’s exceptional".
Jean spent his childhood in the countryside of Bordeaux, immersing himself in nature, fields, and surrounding animals. As the son of farmer-winemakers, his passion for vines and terroir led him to an agricultural engineering degree, complemented by a Diplôme National d’Oenologue.
In March 2010, Jean joined the DBR Lafite teams at Rieussec in Sauternes as the Vineyard Manager before becoming the Operations Manager in 2017. At the same time, he also took over the reins of Château Paradis Casseuil, showcasing his mastery of the Entre-deux-Mers terroirs, before joinig the team at Aussières in November 2022.
With an outstanding team, Jean aims to make Aussières a place where craftsmanship and creativity come together to best reveal the terroirs of the Corbières.

THE VINEYARD

THE VINEYARD

The Akarua vineyard is a unique site, measuring 52 hectares, 34.5 of which planted with vines. The estate is tucked into the foothills of the mountains rising above Kawarua River and is located in Bannockburn in the Central Otago region. The vineyard occupies three west-facing terraces and enjoys intense sun all year round.

This outstanding terroir lends remarkable character to the Pinot Noir in a reflection of the spectacular mountains surrounding the estate. The second most cultivated varietal in New Zealand, Pinot Noir captures and reproduces the intensity of the Bannockburn terroir. Reputed worldwide for its Pinot Noir, Bannockburn now rivals the emblematic regions of Burgundy and Oregon.
